Van Ritshie, Beloved MTA Announcer, ‘Voice Of Hudson Valley’ Radio Host, Dies
If you’ve ever hopped a train or scanned a radio in these parts, chances are good you’ve heard the velvety smooth voice of Van Ritshie. The longtime Hudson Valley radio host and voiceover artist, whose voice guided MTA commuters for decades, died Sunday, Nov. 3, at a Dutchess County hospice center in Poughkeepsie. At least six homes were heavily damaged and roads were washed out following a powerful storm system that brought drenching rain and widespread flooding to parts of New York and Connecticut. Tanker Train Derails In Capital Region; Amtrak Service Halted West Of Albany
Rail service in the region is disrupted after a freight train derailed, sending several tanker cars off the tracks and shutting down a major highway. The incident happened shortly before 8 a.m. Friday, Aug. 4, in Montgomery County, near Route 5 in Cranesville. At least a half dozen tanker cars came off the tracks, some of them flipping onto their sides, photos shared by the New York State Department of Transportation show. The incident happened at around 3:45 p.m. Tuesday, May 23, west of the Wyandanch station, near the intersection of Long Island Avenue and Straight Path. A woman who was killed and a daughter who was injured when a small plane crashed on Long Island were fulfilling a lifelong flying dream. Roma Gupta, age 63, of Whitehouse Station in Hunterdon County, New Jersey, died, while her daughter, Reeva Gupta, age 33, of St. Davids in Delaware County, Pennsylvania, remains in critical condition following the crash in North Lindenhurst on Sunday, March 5.
