Taylor, former Chief of the Nyack Fire Department in Rockland County, who died suddenly on Saturday, Dec. 28. Taylor, 60, of Nyack and Perkinsville, VT, was a well-known video producer for major news outlets, including ESPN, CNN, CBS, and NBC. He was also a member of the Nyack Fire Department since age 16. The incident occurred at 60 Gove St. in the City of Newburgh at 10:45 a.m. on Thursday, December 12. Car Catches On Fire On Taconic Parkway An early morning vehicle blaze sent up plenty of smoke on a busy parkway in Northern Westchester.  The fire began on Tuesday, Nov. 12 around 6 a.m. on the southbound Taconic State Parkway in Briarcliff Manor, where a vehicle went up in flames, according to the Hawthorne Fire Department, which helped fight the blaze.  Arriving firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire in the parkway's right shoulder.  No injuries were reported.

Workers Injured After Torch Sparks Flash Fire At Metro-North Yard Two workers were injured when the torch they lit malfunctioned and caused a flash fire at a Northern Westchester railroad yard.  The incident happened on Thursday, Nov. 7 just before 9:45 a.m. at Metro-North's Croton-Harmon Railroad Yard in Croton-on-Hudson, according to the village's fire department. The blaze happened when two workers lit a malfunctioning torch that caused a "brief but concussive flash fire," the department said.  The workers were taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries.

Car Engulfed In Flames On Taconic Parkway A vehicle fire prompted an early morning response on the Taconic State Parkway. The blaze happened on Saturday, Oct. 19 around 8:30 a.m. in Northern Westchester, when an SUV caught on fire on the southbound side in Hawthorne. Arriving fire crews soon found the vehicle consumed by flames and quickly hosed it down, putting the blaze out completely.  The response took around an hour and sent plumes of smoke up into the air on the parkway, as seen in images of the fire released on the Hawthorne Fire Department's social media page.  No injuries were reported.

Beloved Firefighter Dies After Over 25 Years Of Service In Region A Hudson Valley fire department is mourning the loss of one of its active members who served his community for more than a quarter of a century.  The death of Robert "Link" Linkenhoker was announced by Putnam County's Brewster Fire Department on Wednesday, Oct. 16. Driver Injured In 2-Car Crash In Front Of Historic Manor In Region A two-car crash in front of a historic Northern Westchester manor-turned-museum caused injuries, firefighters said.  The incident happened in Croton-on-Hudson on Saturday, Sept. 7 at around 7:20 p.m., when two vehicles collided in front of Van Cortlandt Manor on South Riverside Avenue, according to the Croton-on-Hudson Fire Department.  Arriving fire crews dealt with a fluid spill from one of the cars while EMS treated a driver injured in the crash.  Both vehicles were later towed away, the department said. Car Goes Up In Flames On Busy Northern Westchester Roadway Smoke was seen on a busy main route in Northern Westchester when a vehicle went up in flames.  The incident happened on Saturday, May 11 around 1:40 p.m., when a car caught on fire on Route 9 southbound in Croton-on-Hudson just south of the pedestrian bridge.  According to the village's fire department, the blaze began in the vehicle's engine compartment and was quickly put out. Driver Rescued After SUV Crashes Into Auto Parts Store In Region A driver had to be rescued after an SUV crashed into an auto parts store in the region. Fire officials in Dutchess County said crews were called to the Dover Plains store in Dover Village Plaza Tuesday, April 19, with reports of a car into a building. Arriving crews found the SUV with its rear end protruding from an exterior wall and the driver still stuck inside, fire officials said. They had to cut away part of the building in order to free the trapped occupant. Fire officials said medics evaluated the patient at the scene and found no injuries. It's unclear what led up to the crash.
