Street Turns To River After 107-Year-Old Water Main Ruptures In Capital Region (Developing)
Crews are responding to a “substantial” water main break in the region that has inundated a residential neighborhood with a torrent of flood water. The Rensselaer County incident happened at around 2:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 18 in Troy’s Lansingburgh neighborhood, near 7th Avenue and 124th Street. According to city officials, a 30-inch cast iron water main running along 124th Street broke somewhere between 6th and 7th avenues. Elevated Lead Levels Found In Drinking Water In Capital Region
Officials are warning of elevated levels of lead that were found in drinking water in the region. In Rensselaer County, the City of Troy revealed that quality monitoring conducted by the Troy Public Utilities department found elevated lead levels in some of the 60 homes and buildings tested throughout the city. “Even though the source of water for the city is free of lead, the test samples taken from inside representative residential homes show an exceedance of lead possibly due to lead water service lines or interior lead plumbing,” reads a city statement posted Monday, Jan. 30.
