Athens Town Bookkeeper Tried Giving Himself Raise: Police A town employee in the region is facing charges after allegedly attempting to give himself an unauthorized pay raise. Columbia County resident Donald Pierro, age 70, of Hillsdale, was arrested Friday, March 22, on suspicion of attempted grand larceny and related charges. Greene County Sheriff’s officials said a Town of Athens employee contacted the agency on Monday, March 18, reporting a possible theft by Pierro, the bookkeeper to Town Supervisor Michael Pirrone. Driver Busted With 102 Grams Of Cocaine In Capital District, Cops Say A Capital District man is behind bars after police said he was busted driving on the New York State Thruway with more than 100 grams of cocaine. Schenectady resident Erick Olivera, age 34, was stopped by New York State Police at around 12:30 p.m. Friday, July 29 as he drove along I-87 in the town of Athens. During their conversation with Olivera, troopers determined they had probable cause to search his vehicle and found approximately 102 grams of cocaine, police said. Former Greene County assistant public defender Anthony Pastel was sentenced Friday, July 8, to seven years behind bars, the maximum sentence possible.
