West Nile Virus Found In Mosquitoes On Long Island; Here's How To Protect Yourself Health officials on Long Island are urging people to take precautions after testing of mosquitoes confirmed the presence of West Nile Virus. Twelve mosquito samples were positive for the virus following testing done at locations around Suffolk County, according to county Health Commissioner Dr. Gregson Pigott. The samples were collected on Sunday, July 2, and Monday, July 3, in Northport, Melville, West Babylon, Lindenhurst, Holbrook, Holtsville, North Patchogue, Farmingville, and Manorville.
