Burn Ban Issued In Rockland County Due To Red Flag Warnings, Numerous Fires In response to ongoing dry conditions and an increased fire danger, Rockland County Executive Ed Day has issued an executive order for a countywide burn ban, effective immediately.  This action was issued for Rockland County on Friday, Nov. 1.  Day said the ban was made in consultation with the Rockland County Office of Fire and Emergency Services in light of the National Weather Service's red flag warnings indicating heightened fire risk. Woman Admits Setting Fire To Hudson Valley Home With Daughter, Grandchildren Inside, DA Says A woman has pleaded guilty to attempted arson in connection with intentionally setting fire to a Hudson Valley home with her and her grandchildren inside. Niagara County resident Itita Washington-Thompson, age 48, of Niagara, made the plea on Monday, Sept. 16, said Dutchess County District Attorney Anthony Parisi. Parisi said: "This case is a chilling example of how a domestic incident or dispute can escalate to dangerous extremes."  The incident occurred on Friday, May 24, at Hammersley Avenue in Poughkeepsie. Large Tree Falls On Wires, Sparks Blaze In Hudson Valley Part of a busy Hudson Valley road is closed after a large tree fell across it, striking power lines in the process.  The stretch of Bucks Hollow Road between Astor Drive and Route 6 in the Putnam County town of Carmel is currently impassable thanks to a fallen tree, the Carmel Highway Department announced on Friday, Aug. 9 just before 4:30 p.m.  The tree sparked a fire after it fell on power lines, as shown in photos of the incident released by the department.  NYSEG has since been notified.
