Crews located a deceased individual in the waters off the Welwyn Preserve in Glen Cove on Thursday morning, March 27, a spokesperson for the Glen Cove Police Department confirmed to Daily Voice.
The individual, who had yet to be publicly identified Thursday afternoon, was located in the water near the jetty, officials said. An official cause of death will be determined by the Nassau County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Thursday’s grim discovery came hours after police confirmed that a Nassau County Police Department aviation crew was assisting in the search for a missing person near the Welwyn Preserve.
Glen Cove Police described the investigation as “ongoing,” but said there is no risk to the public.
