A man who was shot in the foot allegedly fired back at a fleeing SUV before police caught him trying to escape through an alleyway on Long Island authorities announced on Saturday, Aug. 15.
Demetrius Williams, 39, of Brooklyn, was retrieving items from a parked vehicle on Hawthorne Avenue near Feller Drive in Central Islip, when a gray SUV drove past at 6:10 a.m., according to Suffolk County Police.
An unknown person inside the SUV fired two shots at Williams, striking him in the foot, police said.

A man walked into a Long Island bank, handed a teller a note demanding cash, and fled on foot, police announced on Friday, Aug. 14.
The robbery happened at Chase Bank, located at 39 Vanderbilt Motor Parkway in Commack, at approximately 4:45 p.m., according to Suffolk County Police.
The teller complied with the demand before the man took off on foot, police said.
