The 60-year-old Kotb announced her upcoming exit from NBC's "Today" during the show on Thursday morning, Sept. 26, saying on the show that she realized it was time "to try something new" during her 60th birthday celebration in August.
"I remembered standing outside looking at these beautiful bunch of people with these gorgeous signs, and I thought, 'This is what the top of the wave feels like for me.' And I thought it can't get better, and I decided that this is the right time for me to kind of move on," Kotb said during Thursday's show.
She also added that she wanted to spend more time with her daughters Haley, age 7, and Hope, age 4, which she will do at the Westchester County residence she bought in late April, Realtor.com reported.
According to the outlet, Kotb paid $2.895 million through a trust for the 4,000-square-foot center-hall Colonial in Bronxville, which has four bedrooms and five bathrooms and was built in 1952.
The residence boasts a chef's kitchen, formal dining room, and a sun-filled family room complete with a skylight and a vaulted ceiling, the outlet added.
Since moving to Bronxville from Manhattan's Upper West Side, Kotb has posted pictures of the home on Instagram, including one with her daughters as well as a selfie with her "Today" co-anchor Savannah Guthrie.
Kotb also owns a beach property on Long Island where she spends weekends and holidays with her daughters, Realtor.com reported.
According to Kotb, she will remain on the "Today" show through early next year and will stay with NBC in a yet-to-be-specified role.
"It's kind of a big deal for me," Kotb said tearfully during Thursday's show, adding, "I've been practicing so I wouldn't cry, but anyway, I did."
Before her stint on "Today," Kotb worked as a correspondent for "Dateline" beginning in 1998 and as co-host of the fourth hour of "Today" with Kathie Lee Gifford and then Jenna Bush Hager.
Kotb and Guthrie have been co-anchoring the show for over five years.
