A man who was driving drunk on the Long Island Expressway slammed into a police cruiser and then another vehicle involved in an earlier crash overnight, according to authorities. The incident happened just before 3:45 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, in Ronkonkoma. Jose Martin Abeu Jr., age 28, of Brentwood, was driving a 2020 Honda sedan on the eastbound near Exit 58, when he crashed his vehicle into the rear of the stopped police vehicle that had been directing traffic after a prior crash, and then into a 2008 Ford F150 that was involved in the original crash. A phone call claiming to protect a Long Island resident's savings ended in a $20,000 scam, according to authorities. The victim, a 69-year-old New Hyde Park woman, received the call from an unknown man who falsely identified himself as a Walmart employee, according to Nassau County Police. The man advised the victim that there was fraudulent activity on her account and that the victim’s Social Security number was compromised. A 26-year-old man is accused of targeting a Long Island resident through an elaborate computer scam. A 23-year-old Long Island man was killed after he was struck by a Long Island Railroad train. According to David Steckel with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, Christopher Reitzel, of Medford, was hit by LIRR Train 64 at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 10, west of the Sayville Train station when he was on the tracks without authorization. A Long Island man is facing criminal charges after an 11-year-old boy was seen carrying a shotgun outside his home, police said.
