Michael Porter, 54, of Bellport, was struck by a large payloader operated by another employee at a mason yard on Johnson Boulevard in North Lawrence on Monday, March 10, as Daily Voice reported.
The husband and father of three was rushed to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries, Nassau County Police said.
In the wake of the family’s unimaginable loss, family friend Alicen Johnson launched a GoFundMe to help support Porter’s wife Clarice and the kids, providing financial stability as they navigate life without him. As of Wednesday, March 12, the fundraiser had collected over $34,000.
“Mike was more than just a friend—he was family,” Johnson wrote. “He was my husband Erik’s best friend, a devoted father, and a kind soul who always put others first.”
Porter’s unexpected death has left an unimaginable void in the lives of those who loved him most, Johnson continued.
“Any donation, no matter how small, will go directly toward helping them with immediate expenses, household needs, and ensuring the children have the stability they need during this difficult period.”
How To Help
Funeral services for Porter are scheduled for 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 18, at Robertaccio Funeral Home in Patchogue. For those who wish to support the family, donations can be made via GoFundMe.
