1 Dead, 2 Hospitalized After Gas Leak At Home ln Region A 66-year-old man died, and two others were hospitalized after a suspected gas leak at a home in the region.  The incident occurred in Sullivan County around 9:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 18, in Wurtsboro. According to New York State Police Trooper Steven Nevel,  the preliminary investigation revealed that the victims were exposed to carbon monoxide and experienced varying degrees of exposure.  The victims were identified as Baoli Xu, age 55, and Haijun Wang, age 63, both from Wurtsboro, as well as a 66-year-old man from Flushing.  Nevel said the 66-year-old victim, whose nam…

New Update: 2 Killed In Crash Causing Lengthy Road Closure In Region State Police have released the identities of two people from the region killed when their car hit the back of a tractor-trailer, closing the roadway for hours. Related: Traffic Alert: Route 17 Closed Due To Fatal Crash In Mamakating The incident occurred in Sullivan County at 11:55 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 21, on Route 17 West in Mamakating. Welfare Fraud Task Force In Region Nabs Alleged Violators Four recipients of welfare benefits in the region were nabbed for a variety of alleged crimes ranging from selling a SNAP card to failing to report income. The four were charged in Sullivan County from August to October by the Sullivan County Welfare Task Force. The four include: Sage Pere, age 26, of Monticello, was charged on Friday, Aug. 23, for criminal use of a benefit card. It is alleged that Pere sold her SNAP benefit card, issued by the Sullivan County Department of Social Services, for $50 cash. The card had $100 worth of benefits on it.
