Police Chase, Fatal Shooting On Sunrise Highway In Massapequa Prompts State Investigation
A police pursuit and fatal officer-involved shooting on a Long Island highway is the subject of a New York State Attorney General’s Office investigation.
The incident happened on Sunrise Highway in Massapequa on Friday, Sept. 20.
According to the AG’s office, officers with the NYPD, along with Freeport and Nassau County Police, were involved in a vehicle pursuit through Queens and Nassau counties.
The chase ended when the suspect, Jeremy Bennett, stopped his car on the highway. During the ensuing encounter, officers opened fire, striking the man.

Last Full-Size Kmart Store In US, Located On Long Island, Set To Close: Here's Where, When
The nation's last remaining full-size Kmart discount department store is just weeks away from permanently closing, according to a new report.
The New York store, located on Long Island, will close on Sunday, Oct. 20, a store employee told NBC affiliate WJAR in Providence on Sunday, Sept. 22.
The store is in Bridgehampton on Montauk Highway (Route 27).
A smaller format store in Miami, Florida remains open, the report said.
Kmart operated around 2,500 stores at its peak in the early 90s, according to government filings. It merged with Sears in 2005.

Man Kills Ex-Wife, Her BF At Long Island Home, Police Say
A man is accused of fatally shooting his ex-wife and her boyfriend at their Long Island home.
Suffolk County Police were called to a St. James residence on Brasswood Road for a disturbance at around 11:45 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 28.
Homicide detectives determined that Daniel Coppola, age 50, shot his ex-wife, 50-year-old Kelly Coppola, and her boyfriend, 53-year-old Kenneth Pohlman, police told Daily Voice. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.
The Coppolas were in the middle of a contentious divorce at the time, according to investigators.

'Irate' Passenger Exposes Himself To Girls, Man Aboard Nassau County Bus, Police Say
A man is facing multiple charges after allegedly exposing himself to two minors on a Long Island bus.
The incident happened in Cedarhurst, on an MTA bus that was traveling near Rockaway Turnpike and Rugby Road, at around 9:15 a.m. Monday, Aug. 19.
Nassau County Police said a 30-year-old man and two girls, ages 17 and 7, were riding on the bus when another passenger “became irate,” pulled his pants down, and exposed himself to the victims.
The suspect, 61-year-old Dwight Poorman, of Far Rockaway, Queens, then threatened them with a stick, police said. Nobody was injured.

Woman Killed After Being Struck By Tractor-Trailer On Long Island
Police are investigating after a woman was killed in an overnight Long Island crash.
It happened around 1:50 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 20, in North Bellport.
The victim was walking in the right lane of westbound Sunrise Highway (Route 27), east of Exit 55, when she was struck by a 2015 Kenworth tractor-trailer, according to Suffolk County Police.
Maureen Howley, age 77, of Bellport, was transported to Long Island Community Hospital in Patchogue, where she was pronounced dead.
The tractor-trailer driver, a 30-year-old East Hampton woman, was not injured.
