3 Rescued After Dive Boat Sinks Near 1888 Shipwreck Off Nassau County Three people were rescued after their diving boat sank near the site of a shipwreck off the coast of Long Island. It happened at around 4:15 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 10, nearly three miles southwest of Long Beach. The US Coast Guard Sector Long Island responded after receiving text messages saying a boat was taking on water near the SS Iberia shipwreck with three people in the water. Duo Saved From Sinking Boat Off Long Island Coast Disaster was averted when police rescued two Long Islanders from their sinking boat. It happened off the coast of Northport on Thursday, June 27, Suffolk County Police said. Just before 2 p.m. that day, Marine Bureau officers received a report that a boat, sitting about one mile north of Eatons Neck Lighthouse, was in distress. When officers arrived to aid, they found that the boat — a 1997 Bayliner Trophy — with its cabin and stern partially submerged.
