3.8 Magnitude Earthquake Shakes New York, Multiple Other States The US Geological Survey said a 3.8 magnitude earthquake shook much of the Northeast on Monday, Jan. 27. The quake occurred at 10:45 a.m. and was initially reported as a 4.1 on the Richter scale. Its epicenter was located near York Harbor, approximately seven miles off the coast of Maine and about 13 miles underground. According to Dutchess County Emergency Management, the quake occurred around 3 a.m., Wednesday, June 26, originating in the town of Poughkeepsie between Sheafe Road and Camelot Road.
