The nationwide chain announced in June that it would close 40 stores following dismal sales and rising costs, but in a new filing last week, the company said it may need to shutter nearly 300 locations — several of them in the Northeast.  Big Lots announced in a US Securities and Exchange Commission filing on Friday, Aug. 2, that under an updated term sheet, the company would need to close 20 percent of its 1,392 stores — about 290 in all.  Here are some of the local closures. Seen Him Or This Car? Silver Alert Issued For Missing Centereach Man A Long Island man has gone missing and authorities have issued a Silver Alert. James Shurman, age 35, was last seen leaving his Centereach home at approximately 4 a.m. on Friday, June 28 in a gray 2015 Chrysler 200 with NY license plate KRP 8819.  Shurman was reported missing by family on Sunday, June 30. Shurman is 5-foot-8, 225 pounds. He has red hair and hazel eyes. Detectives are asking anyone with information on Shurman’s location to call 911 or Sixth Squad detectives at 631-854-8652. Know Him? Man Wanted For Theft From Long Island Store Police on Long Island are asking the public for help identifying a man who allegedly sold a MacBook Pro laptop from a Best Buy store. The incident occurred in Centereach at the store located at 261 Pond Path around 1 p.m., Wednesday, May 8. According to Suffolk County Crime Stoppers and Suffolk County Police detectives, the man stole a MacBook Pro laptop valued at $1,900 and left the area in what appeared to be a white Honda CR-V.
