Hempstead School Superintendent Ousted Over Possible Misconduct
A Long Island school district formally cut ties with its superintendent over possible misconduct. The Hempstead School Board voted 4-1 to remove Superintendent Regina Armstrong at a special meeting held Thursday evening, Sept. 5. Armstrong was "reassigned to home effective immediately," board President Victor Pratt said in a letter to the community. “This decision was not made lightly and comes after a comprehensive review of recent developments and their impact on our school district,” he said. Alert Issued For Missing 14-Year-Old Girl From Elmont
Police are asking for help in locating a 14-year-old Long Island girl who was reported missing. Gerdine Oswald was last seen in Elmont at around 8 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, according to Nassau County Police. She was reported missing Thursday afternoon. Oswald is 5-feet tall and 100 pounds, with black and auburn hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing black shorts and a black shirt. NYers Urged To Beware, Report AI Election Misinformation
State leaders are urging New Yorkers to beware purposely misleading election information generated by artificial intelligence. On Thursday, Sept. 5, New York Attorney General Letitia James released an online guide to help voters identify and report AI-generated “deepfakes” that can create videos depicting politicians saying or doing something they never did. Man's 'Horrific' Stabbing Attack On Ex-GF In Front Of Children On Long Island Nets 15 Years
A Long Island man will spend over a decade in prison for brutally stabbing his ex-girlfriend in front of their horrified children. Jorge Guevara, age 49, of Bay Shore, was sentenced to 15 years behind bars in Suffolk County Court on Wednesday, Sept. 4, after a jury convicted him of attempted assault and related charges. Teen Duo Charged After Knife Found At Long Island High School
Two teens have been charged following a dispute that allegedly prompted one of them to bring a knife to school on Long Island. A 15-year-old boy displayed the knife at his bus stop and was met by staff members as he exited the bus at Sachem High School North in Lake Ronkonkoma, according to Suffolk County Police. A 20-year-old Long Island man was caught performing a "lewd act" while walking down the aisles in the middle of the afternoon at a local Walmart, police said. Two men are facing prostitution charges after an undercover investigation on Long Island. The operation was conducted at Thai Spa in Wantagh, located at 1436 Wantagh Ave. late in the afternoon on Thursday, Sept. 5.
