Police on Long Island are investigating the deaths of two young girls — ages 2 and 4 — who are believed to have drowned in a pond behind an apartment complex, authorities said. The girls were found behind the Fairfield Townhouses at Holtsville at 2 Victorian Court in Holtsville on Saturday, Sept. 7, the Suffolk County Police Department said. A family member called 911 around 3:15 p.m. to report the girls missing. Police found their bodies in the pond a few minutes after they arrived at the scene. A person was killed after being struck by a compact SUV during the height of the evening commute at a busy Long Island intersection.It happened just before 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6, in North Bay Shore. A 76-year-old North Bay Shore man was driving a 2015 Honda CRV westbound on Pine Aire Drive at the intersection of 5th Avenue. One person suffered severe injuries in a chain reaction Long Island crash.It happened around 2:15 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, in Dix Hills. A 23-year-old Smithtown man was driving a 2006 Toyota Prius southbound on Deer Park Road at Deforest Road when the vehicle struck a northbound 2025 Kenworth semi-truck, according to Suffolk County Police. Long Island Resident Killed After House Fire Breaks Out
A resident was killed in a Long Island house fire. The blaze broke out just before 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27 in Bay Shore. Artemio Gonzalez, age 77, had been removed from the house by a family member, a good Samaritan and a Suffolk County PD Third Precinct officer. Gonzalez was transported to South Shore Hospital in Bay Shore where he was pronounced dead, police said.
