Korean War Hero And Dutchess County Native Charles Johnson Awarded Medal of Honor A Korean War hero and Dutchess Count native has finally received the nation’s highest military honor after decades of effort by his family, students, local advocates, and US Congressman Pat Ryan. Private First Class Charles Johnson, a 1951 graduate of Arlington High School, was awarded the Medal of Honor on Friday, Jan. 3 at the White House.  His heroic actions during a June 11, 1953 battle near the demilitarized zone in Korea are credited with saving at least eight lives, President Joe Biden said during the ceremony.
