Week-Long Crackdown On Distracted Driving Launched In NY: Here's How Much Violators Will Pay New York State Police are launching a statewide crackdown on distracted driving — and those caught on their phones will have to pay up.  The enforcement effort, known as “Put the Phone Away or Pay,” runs from Monday, April 6, through Monday, April 13, during National Distracted Driving Awareness Month, State Police announced on Monday. Police To Target Aggressive Drivers In This Dutchess County Town As aggressive drivers flood the roadways, a town in the region will increase traffic enforcement to address the issue. The patrols will occur in Dutchess County in the town of Poughkeepsie in the coming weeks. According to the town of Poughkeepsie Police, officers will actively monitor for violations such as speeding, unsafe lane changes, passing red lights, and other dangerous driving behaviors.  "Our goal is to enhance road safety and ensure a secure driving environment for everyone," the department said. The enforcement will take place throughout the town limits.

Targeted 4-Hour Detail Results In 23 Traffic Stops At Busy Hudson Valley Shopping Center Following complaints from residents and business owners, a targeted police detail at a busy Hudson Valley shopping center resulted in 23 traffic summonses over only four hours.  The enforcement campaign was conducted in Putnam County on Friday evening, May 17 at the Mahopac Village Center shopping center.
