A transgender RIT track and field athlete who registered to run in a meet hosted by Princeton University was pulled from the competition minutes before her race, according to a newly filed lawsuit. Family and friends will gather next week to say goodbye to Robert “Rob” Violante, a beloved New Jersey high school coach and educator from Westchester County who was tragically killed in a fatal crash on the Taconic State Parkway in New York. Violante, age 45, of the hamlet of Granite Springs in Somers, was driving home from work on Wednesday, May 14, when his vehicle was struck head-on by a van that crossed the median near mile marker 9.2 in New Castle, as previously reported by Daily Voice. A former high school football star and college athlete was among three young men killed in a fiery Mother’s Day car crash on Long Island. Vincent Cavaliere, of Bethpage, died alongside Gino Vicale, of Seaford; and Nicholas Rivera, of Glendale in the single-vehicle wreck in Bethpage, Nassau County Police said. The University of New Haven is taking a huge step up in sports and competing at the level of the UConn Huskies. The Chargers will officially elevate their programs to NCAA Division I. New Haven will become the 10th full-time member of the Northeast Conference on Tuesday, July 1. The Roger Williams University community is mourning the loss of a junior who died after suffering a medical emergency while studying abroad in Italy, the university announced. Paige Moreau, Class of 2026, was an architect student and was studying in Florence when she died on Friday, April 26, school officials said. Paige was deeply involved in campus life at RWU.
