AccuWeather meteorologists are warning that the Atlantic could see up to five named storms in August, with at least one or two likely to reach hurricane strength. A Long Island family’s dinner took a terrifying turn when lightning struck their home, igniting a rooftop fire. The blaze broke out around 6:40 p.m. Tuesday, July 1, at a two-story residence in Lawrence on Juniper Circle North, according to Nassau County Police. As a line of thunderstorms passed through the area, lightning struck the home’s roof and started a fire, the Nassau County Fire Marshal said. Showers and thunderstorms will make for a dreary first half of the weekend before a change in the weather pattern arrives. Up to 1.5 inches of precipitation is possible on Saturday, April 26, AccuWeather says. After the storm clears out, strong winds will move in on Sunday, April 27. NJ Mom Killed By Falling Tree While Camping With Family In Furious Upstate NY Storm
A New Jersey woman was killed in upstate New York over the weekend when a tree fell on her camper during fierce thunderstorms that ripped through the region, authorities said. At about 10:50 a.m. the Delaware County 911 Center received multiple reports of trees down on campers at multiple locations with an individual trapped at the Russell Brook Campground in the Town of Colchester.
