13,000+ Tickets Issued In NY Over Thanksgiving: Hudson Valley Had Most DWIs, Police Say
New York State Police issued more than 13,000 tickets statewide during the 2025 Thanksgiving traffic enforcement initiative, with the Hudson Valley, Capital Region, and Long Island seeing some of the heaviest activity, according to new data released Wednesday, Dec. 3.
The campaign ran from Wednesday, Nov. 26, through Sunday, Nov. 30, and focused on DWI, distracted driving, speeding, and seatbelt violations. Troopers said they arrested 247 people for DWI and investigated 1,277 crashes, including two fatal incidents.

A Connecticut mansion valued at more than $4 million was destroyed by fire on Thanksgiving as a family of 20 was about to sit down to enjoy their holiday meal, authorities said.
The fire ignited shortly before 4 p.m. in Fairfield County at a two-story, nearly 9,300-square-foot residence in Weston on Weston Road, near the intersection with Broad Street. All occupants escaped unharmed, Weston firefighters reported.

What Spirit Airlines' Bankruptcy Means For Holiday Travelers
Spirit Airlines, the no-frills budget carrier, announced it would file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy a week before a record number of people are expected to fly during the Thanksgiving holiday, reports said.
The Florida-based airline announced Monday, Nov. 18, that its debt, growing losses, and increased competition have kept the company in the red for four years, and it would need to restructure its bills to keep it in the air, NBC News reported.
