Former Officer Who Attacked NY State Trooper With Screwdriver After Stabbing Victim Gets Prison
A former police officer will spend the next decade in prison for a violent domestic attack that left a victim stabbed roughly 15 times inside a Westchester County home.
Heriberto Andujar, 52, of Somers, also known as Eric Andujar, was sentenced Thursday, Feb. 26, in Westchester County Court to 10 years in state prison, followed by five years of post-release supervision, the Westchester County District Attorney's Office announced Friday, Feb. 27.
Andujar pleaded guilty in January to first-degree assault in connection with the Dec. 5, 2024, attack.

An off-duty NYPD detective from Putnam County was arrested after allegedly pointing a loaded gun at three teenagers during a road rage incident, prosecutors said.

ID Released Of Man, 31, Killed By Falling Tree Limb In NY (Update)
Authorities have released the identity of the man who died after being struck by a falling tree limb while on the job in Northern Westchester.
Jonathan Chavez Jaramillo, age 31, of Ossining, was performing tree removal work at a private residence in Somers when he was fatally injured, New York State Police said in an update on Thursday, June 26.
The incident happened around 4:03 p.m. on Monday, June 23, when a landscaping service contracted by the homeowner was removing a tree from the property. During the job, Chavez Jaramillo was hit by a falling limb.

Hudson Valley Man Posing As Attorney Scams Thousands From Victim, Police Say
A man from the region has been accused of posing as an attorney and targeting victims, including one he allegedly scammed out of thousands of dollars.
The New York State Police have reported that an investigation has revealed that Northern Westchester County resident David Karaca, 56, of Somers, impersonated a lawyer in a virtual Alcoholics Anonymous group based in Los Angeles.
Karaca, also known as David Radcliffe and David Corazza, defrauded a victim of $7,500 for legal fees despite not being a licensed attorney, said police.
