Crossing Guard Struck, Killed While Helping Children Cross Street In Dutchess (Update)
Officials have identified the 72-year-old crossing guard killed Monday morning, Sept. 29, while helping children get to school in Dutchess County, police said.
James Montanino, 72, was on duty at 372 Church St. in Poughkeepsie at around 7:30 a.m. on Monday when he was struck by a vehicle while assisting children on their way to the Smith Elementary School, the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department said on Monday afternoon.
Montanino was taken to MidHudson Regional Hospital, where he later died of his injuries.

Ny-bound Bus Crash On Garden State Parkway Leaves 15 Injured, Mostly Children: State Police
A school bus carrying 31 people, including children, overturned on the Garden State Parkway in Montvale Monday night, March 10, shutting down all lanes, officials said.
New Jersey State Police responded to the crash at 7:39 p.m. near milepost 170.5 in Montvale, according to New Jersey State Police Sgt. Charles Marchan. A preliminary investigation found that the bus, driven by a 44-year-old Lakewood man, veered off the right side of the roadway and overturned, authorities said.
Montvale Mayor Mike Ghassali confirmed the bus was headed to New York when it crashed.
