The New York City-based burger chain announced plans to open its first year-round, full-scale Capital Region location at Stuyvesant Plaza in Guilderland. Shake Shack will take over the former TGI Fridays building at the Western Avenue entrance, which closed in 2024 after the company shuttered dozens of underperforming locations. Akili-Abdul Duncan, 53, of Albany, was taken into custody on felony weapons charges by Guilderland Police on Thursday, March 20, the agency said. Duncan, who has taught in Albany area schools since 2006, was connected to a loaded pistol that was recovered from Crossgates Mall in 2021, according to police. The collision occurred in Guilderland, near the intersection of Western Avenue and Lawton Terrace, just yards from the Crossgates Mall, at around 6:40 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30. Timothy Gapp was crossing the street when he was struck by a vehicle, Guilderland Police said. Gapp, of Guilderland, was taken by ambulance to Albany Medical Center Hospital, where he died from his injuries. Fatal Crash: 34-Year-Old ID'd As Victim In Capital Region Police are investigating a single-vehicle crash that left one person dead in the region. It happened around 5:10 p.m. Thursday, June 20, in Albany. The investigation determined that Albany County resident Michael F. Furch, age 34, of Guilderland, was operating a motorcycle when he lost control of his vehicle and struck a concrete barrier exiting I-787 on the off-ramp to I-90, New York State Police said. Furch was ejected from the motorcycle and landed on the shoulder of I-787 northbound below the off-ramp.   Furch was pronounced dead at the scene.
