Tragedy was avoided during Monday’s blizzard after a Long Island Department of Public Works employee spotted two dogs running along Sunrise Highway and sprang into action. The DPW worker, Kenny McGowan, was plowing roads near Babylon Town Hall in Suffolk County on the morning of Monday, Feb. 23, when he saw the dogs running westbound on Sunrise Highway in the middle of whiteout conditions, according to the town. Van Flips On Route 9W In NY, Driver Escapes With Help From Passersby
A rollover crash on Route 9W in Rockland County brought out emergency crews Monday morning, June 30, but it was quick-thinking good Samaritans who helped the driver escape. According to the Piermont Fire Department, the crash occurred in the morning hours and involved a single vehicle that rolled over, temporarily trapping the driver. Woman Killed In Hit-Run Crash At Busy Intersection In Wappinger
A hit-run driver struck and killed a woman in the region, according to New York State Police. The crash happened in Dutchess County at approximately 8:35 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 26, near the intersection of Old Hopewell Road and Route 9 in the town of Wappinger. The 43-year-old woman was hit by a westbound vehicle. Despite efforts by Good Samaritans, she was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. Her identity has not yet been released.
