A Hudson Valley firefighter, US Army veteran, and young father is facing a long road to recovery after being struck by a wrong-way driver on the NJ Turnpike last weekend, loved ones say.
Guillermo Mollins, 39, of Poughkeepsie, was in a Honda sedan when he was struck by a Ford pickup truck driven by 44-year-old Bruce Canfield, of Pottstown, PA, who was traveling south in the northbound lanes of the Turnpike early Saturday, Jan. 3, NJSP Sgt. Jeffrey Lebron said.

Salomon “Salo” Pop Chub, of Saugerties, died Monday, Sept. 15, after spending a week in critical condition following an accident at a meat processing facility. He lost a significant amount of blood and went into cardiac arrest multiple times, according to a GoFundMe campaign.
“Salo was a cornerstone of our kitchen family and a beloved friend to all of us,” wrote organizer Ally Merritt, owner of Gracie’s Luncheonette in Leeds.

A former Hudson County corrections officer who killed his girlfriend and her friend in 2021 has learned his fate.
John P. Menendez has been sentenced to 50 years in state prison for the killings of Anna Shpilberg and Luiza Shinkarevskaya, both 40, with his service weapon in Newark in February 2021, NJ Advance Media reports.
