Off-Duty Firefighter Jumps Into Hudson River To Rescue Kayaker In Dutchess County
An off-duty firefighter sprang into action to rescue a kayaker struggling in the Hudson River off the Dutchess County coast, officials said.
The incident happened around 5:25 p.m. on Tuesday, May 5, near the shoreline of Long Dock Park in the City of Beacon, according to the Beacon Fire Department.
Emergency crews, including Beacon firefighters, police, EMS, and the New Hamburg Fire Department, were dispatched after reports of an overturned kayaker in distress.

Authorities said that Austin Caston, 20, of Hyde Park, was driving a 2009 Pontiac G6 southbound on North Quaker Lane near Forest Drive when he lost control of the vehicle. The car then left the roadway and struck a tree.

A 54-year-old New Jersey man was killed in a late-night snowmobile crash in New York Friday night, Feb. 20, according to State Police.
Troopers responded to the crash at approximately 11:10 p.m., on a trail about one-half mile behind 253 County Road 111 in Caroga Lake, State Police said.
Stephen J. Banks, 54, of Cream Ridge (Freehold), NJ, was operating a snowmobile when it failed to negotiate a curve in the trail and struck a tree, according to the preliminary investigation.

The incident happened in Red Hook on Monday, Dec. 29, when officers were dispatched at around 2:45 p.m. to Linden Avenue at Rockefeller Lane, the Red Hook Police Department said on Tuesday, Dec. 30.
