Clone-Creating Tick Invades Another East Coast State: Public Health Officials Sound Alarm
Connecticut researchers have confirmed the presence of a fast-spreading invasive tick that could pose serious health risks to people and pets across the state. The longhorned tick, originally from eastern Asia, was recently detected during local field studies by the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station in partnership with the USDA. Dozens Sickened By Cucumbers Sold In NY During Nationwide Salmonella Outbreak
More than two dozen people, including some in the mid-Atlantic, have gotten sick from a nationwide salmonella outbreak linked to cucumbers. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said at least 26 people in 15 states have been infected with the outbreak strain of Salmonella Montevideo. Nine people have been hospitalized, though no deaths have been reported. Health officials in Westchester County have confirmed that a dozen Canada geese found dead at a local park tested positive for avian flu, prompting town leaders to keep the area closed indefinitely.
