Burn Injuries Spark Massive Curling Iron Recall From NY Company
A Long Island importer is recalling a popular hair styling tool after several people suffered burns, officials said.
J&D Brush Company issued the recall for about 357,000 Bio Ionic One-Inch-Long Barrel Curling Irons purchased in the US, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said on Thursday, Oct. 23. The Commack, New York, company also sold about 3,000 curling irons in Canada.
The iron's barrel can detach while being used, posing a burn hazard. There have been 258 reports of the barrel breaking off, causing six minor burn injuries, according to the CPSC.

A popular torch lighter is being recalled due to deadly fire and burn hazards.
Calico Brands is recalling about 175,000 Scripto Premium Torches, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said on Thursday, Oct. 9. The torches violate mandatory safety standards for multipurpose lighters, creating a risk of serious injury or death.
No incidents or injuries have been reported, according to the CPSC. The recall covers the torches with a four-position adjustable metal nozzle, adjustable flame, hands-free operation lock, black non-slip rubber grip, and a metal base with a velvet bottom.

Thousands of portable vaporizers are being recalled after reports of batteries overheating, smoking, and ejecting material.
Arizer Tech issued the recall for about 5,460 of its Solo II vapes, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said on Thursday, Sept. 18. Around 2,820 vapes were sold in Canada.
The internal lithium-ion battery can overheat, posing fire and burn hazards. Arizer has received nine reports of overheating, producing smoke, or ejecting material.
