NJ Pilot Killed In Fiery Plane Crash At NY Airport (

An 80-year-old pilot from New Jersey was killed when his small plane crashed at a Hudson Valley airport on Saturday, Sept. 27, state police said in an update. Gerald "Jerry" Cotter, 80, of Milford (Hunterdon County), was attempting to take off from Kobelt/Wallkill Airport in Shawangunk, NY when the small plane crashed and caught fire around 2:25 p.m., NYSP said. Cotter, who was the only person on board, was pronounced dead at the scene. The Federal Aviation Administration has been notified. The investigation is ongoing.

A fast-moving brush fire fueled by wind and dry conditions scorched nearly 20 acres of wooded land in Putnam County, firefighters said. For two days, numerous Hudson Valley fire departments battled a stubborn brush fire atop Nordkop Mountain. Several fire and police departments are battling a large brush fire near a country club in the Hudson Valley.
