Retired Police K9 Named For 9/11 Hero Mourned In NY A Rockland County police department is mourning the loss of one of its most loyal and courageous K9s who served the community for years alongside his handler.  The death of retired Clarkstown Police K9 Remy, who served alongside his handler, retired Officer Reekie, was announced by the department on Friday, July 18.  “K9 Remy served with honor and distinction,” the department said in a statement on Friday, adding, "Throughout his years of service, K9 Remy exemplified courage, loyalty, and dedication protecting our officers and the Clarkstown community with unwavering commitment." …

Longtime NY Firefighter, 9/11 Hero Dies At 67: Remembered For Lifetime Of Service A brave Hudson Valley first responder and FDNY EMS hero who raced to the World Trade Center on 9/11 has died.  John “Jackie” Sullivan, a 36-year volunteer firefighter in both the Rockland County village of Spring Valley and the Westchester County town of Yorktown, died on Wednesday, July 9, at the age of 67, the Yorktown Heights Volunteer Fire Department announced.  Sullivan, a Navy veteran, served for 12 years as a flight engineer before embarking on a 31-year career in New York City Emergency Medical Services, eventually rising to the rank of Deputy Chief at FDNY EMS in addition…

Ex-Chief Of FD In HV Dies After 9/11-Related Cancer Fight: 'Lived, Breathed Fire Service' A Hudson Valley fire department is mourning the loss of one of its own who died after a long and courageous battle with 9/11-related cancer.  Former Tappan Fire Department Chief Fredrick Simms Jr. died on Thursday morning, June 12 at home surrounded by his family, the department said in a statement.  Simms, known as “Freddie” to friends and fellow firefighters, was a lifelong firefighter. Cyberattack Limits Hudson Valley City Services: Here's What A cyberattack on a Hudson Valley city's network security is preventing residents from numerous functions, including paying their water bills or property taxes, and many others.
