BMW Driver Flees Illegal Suffolk County Car Meet, Kills Lights, Blows Through Reds

A reckless driver tore away from an illegal car meet, cut his lights, and blasted through red lights to evade Suffolk County police—but officers tracked him down the next night and seized his BMW, authorities said.

Clyde Jean Baptiste, 23, of Mastic Beach, fled from a street takeover at Motor Parkway and Joshua’s Path in Hauppauge at approximately 9 p.m. on Saturday, March 15, according to the Suffolk County Police Department.

When the Street Takeover Task Force moved in, Baptiste allegedly shut off his headlights and floored it, blowing through intersections in a high-speed escape attempt.

But he didn’t stay hidden for long. Police spotted the BMW M3 barreling northbound on William Floyd Parkway in Shirley and pulled it over at 11:15 p.m. on Sunday, March 16.

Baptiste was hit with multiple traffic citations, and his BMW was impounded as evidence of unlawful fleeing, police said.

Criminal charges are accusations, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
