5 Nabbed On Gun Charges During Traffic Stop In Region, Police Say Five residents in the region, including three juveniles, were nabbed on alleged gun charges during a routine traffic stop.  The incident occurred in Orange County around 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 16, on I-84 in Deerpark. According to New York State Police Trooper Steven Nevel, troopers initiated a traffic stop and identified the driver as Orange County resident Jaykris Vargas, age 23, of Middletown. Trio From Out Of State Nabbed With Illegally-Possessed Guns In Region: Police Three suspects from another state face charges after they were caught with four illegally possessed handguns during a Hudson Valley traffic stop, police announced.  The arrests were made in Putnam County on Saturday, Sept. 7 around 3 p.m., when police saw a blue Nissan SUV with a Texas registration allegedly fail to use its turn signal while turning onto Route 6N from Mahopac Plaza, the Carmel Police Department announced on Monday, Sept. 9.  Officers then pulled the SUV over and found a loaded handgun in one of the passenger's waistbands. Duo Wanted For Armed Carjacking Targeting Woman In Capital Region A woman escaped unharmed following an armed carjacking in the region. The incident happened shortly before 11 p.m. Thursday, July 25, in Albany near Alexander and Clinton streets. Albany Police said the victim told officers she was sitting in her vehicle when two men approached, one appearing to hold a handgun, and demanded her car. She complied and the suspects fled the scene in her vehicle. The woman was not injured in the ordeal.
