Girl, 14, Critical After Newburgh Shooting: Police A 14-year-old girl is in critical condition after being shot in the City of Newburgh on Friday night, Dec. 20, police said. Officers from the City of Newburgh Police Department responded to a report of gunfire near 119 South Street at approximately 8:30 p.m., the department said. Upon arrival, officers found the teen suffering from a gunshot wound. Police immediately provided life-saving aid before the victim was transported to Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh. Man From Region Who Impaled Roommate With Metal Broom To Spend Years In Prison A Hudson Valley man who impaled his roommate in the head with a metal broom, killing him, will spend years behind bars. Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler announced on Tuesday, Aug. 27, that Orange County resident James Rich, age 36, of Newburgh, was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison for killing a man with a broomstick.  Rich was convicted in June by a jury of all charges, including murder and criminal possession of a weapon.
