Car Fire Blocking Multiple Lanes Of Long Island Highway During Evening Commute A car fire was blocking multiple lanes of a Long Island highway during the evening commute Tuesday, Jan. 21. Fire and aid crews were dispatched to the Wantagh State Parkway in East Meadow for a car fire in the southbound lanes near Stewart Avenue shortly before 6 p.m. All but one of the eastbound lanes were blocked by emergency responders, Department of Transportation cameras showed. Tree Impales Woman Driving On Northern State Parkway This story has been updated. A woman was seriously injured when high winds sent a tree toppling onto her moving car on the Northern State Parkway. The incident happened in Roslyn Heights, in the westbound lanes near exit 29, at around 1:15 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 5. Multiple fire trucks and ambulances responded to reports of a tree onto a vehicle with at least one victim trapped and requiring extrication, according to preliminary radio traffic.
