A driver accidentally accelerated into a Hicksville residence, leaving the home uninhabitable, Nassau County police announced on Wednesday, Sept. 10 at 7 a.m. The woman was attempting to back into a parking spot at Central Nassau Guidance-Counseling on Jerusalem Avenue when she mistakenly pressed the gas pedal instead of the brake, police explained. An elderly resident was hospitalized after an out-of-control car smashed into a senior living facility on Long Island. The dramatic wreck happened in Uniondale, at Park Gardens on Uniondale Avenue, shortly before 3:30 p.m. Monday, July 7. A sedan plowed through an exterior wall and entered directly into one of the apartments, where a senior resident was sitting on the couch watching television, according to preliminary radio traffic. A Long Island family’s dinner took a terrifying turn when lightning struck their home, igniting a rooftop fire. The blaze broke out around 6:40 p.m. Tuesday, July 1, at a two-story residence in Lawrence on Juniper Circle North, according to Nassau County Police. As a line of thunderstorms passed through the area, lightning struck the home’s roof and started a fire, the Nassau County Fire Marshal said. 2 Firefighters Injured After Blaze Breaks Out At Long Island Home
A house fire on Long Island left two firefighters injured. The blaze broke out at about 10:15 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19, in Woodmere at a home on Mosher Avenue. Responders arrived to find flames emanating from the rear of the residence. All occupants were evacuated safely, while multiple fire departments, led by the Woodmere Fire Department, worked to extinguish the blaze. The two injured firefighters declined medical treatment.
