Camera Captured Brother, Sister Abusing Elderly Mother Before Her Death On Long Island, DA Says
After a lifetime of caring for children and serving her community, Carmel McDougall was ultimately betrayed by her own son and daughter, prosecutors alleged.
Long Island resident Michael McDougall, age 65, of Roosevelt, was indicted on manslaughter and related charges in Nassau County Court on Tuesday, Oct. 29, in the death of his mother, McDougall.
His sister, Nichole McDougall-Mullings, age 55, of Roosevelt, was also charged with two counts of endangering the welfare of an incompetent or physically disabled person.

Ronkonkoma Man Admits To Double-Fatal Shooting At Selden Residence
A Long Island man is facing decades in prison after admitting to fatally shooting two people inside a home.
Brian Cordovano, age 50, of Ronkonkoma and formerly of Bay Shore, was arrested following a traffic stop in Smithtown, on Columbus Avenue, just before noontime on Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2023.
On Tuesday, May 3, 2022 at around 10:45 p.m. in Selden at 55 Hollywood Ave., Ian Saalfield, age 45, of Lake Grove, who had been reported missing by his wife nearly two weeks earlier, and the homeowner, Robert Julian, age 58, were found shot to death, Suffolk County Police said.

Trail Killing: Couple Gets Decades For Stabbing Man On Port Jefferson Bike Path
A Long Island couple will spend decades behind bars for their roles in the murder of a man on a popular walking and biking trail.
Jose Martinez-Vazquez, age 25, of Port Jefferson Station, was sentenced to 20 years to life in prison in Suffolk County Court on Monday, Oct. 7, in the death of Benjamin Flores-Mendez.
His girlfriend, Tiffany Diaz-Cabrera, age 21, of Port Jefferson Station, was given 15 years to life.

Son, Daughter's Abuse Led To Death Of Long Island Woman, Police Say
A brother and sister from Long Island are accused of abusing their elderly mother to the point the woman died.
Nassau County Police were called to a Roosevelt home at around 2:40 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 12, to perform a welfare check.
Inside, officers found 85-year-old Carmel McDougall unresponsive. She was taken to a hospital and died days later, on Wednesday, Sept. 18.
An investigation found that McDougall’s 65-year-old son, Michael McDougall, was responsible for the injuries that caused her death, police said.
