Gov. Kathy Hochul is warnig New Yorkers that severe heat and high humidity will pose a significant health risk from Monday, July 15, through Wednesday, July 17. Temperatures during that stretch are likely to bring dangerous heat indexes between 95 and 104 degrees across the entire state. 'Crucial' Financial Literacy Programs Aim To Help Low-Income Families In Capital Region, Beyond
Leaders in Albany are seeking to help New Yorkers better manage their money. The New York Department of State has awarded a total of $1.1 million in grant funding to 11 community organizations to establish financial literacy programs. The programs, open to individuals at or below 200 percent of the federal poverty guidelines, will offer one-on-one coaching with financial professionals as well as education on budgeting and money management. Widespread Flooding, Road Closures Reported As Potent Storm Drenches Capital Region
A potent, late autumn storm is bringing flooding and road closures to parts of the region. Flood watches or warnings are up for the entire Capital Region with rainfall totals of 2 to 4 inches expected through Monday night, Dec. 18, according to the National Weather Service in Albany. Higher rainfall accumulations are expected on east and southeast-facing slopes of the eastern Catskills. Police are investigating a series of prank bomb threats that disrupted schools across New York. The positive COVID-19 infection rate in the Capital District continues to rise and remains among the highest in New York, according to the latest update from the state Department of Health. In the region, over the past three days, the seven-day average percent of positive tests in the Capital Region rose from 11.75 percent as recently as Saturday, May 7 before rising to 12.42 percent of those tested on Monday, May 9.
