NY 17-Year-Old Who Died During Hockey Game Was 'Beacon Of Sportsmanship, Leadership'
The Long Island hockey community is mourning the loss of a rising young star who collapsed and died during a charity game over Thanksgiving weekend. Connor Kasin, age 17, lost consciousness at around 9 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 30, during an intermission at the Town of Oyster Bay Skating Center on Stewart Avenue in Bethpage, Nassau County Police said. Kasin, a senior defenseman at Massapequa High School, was given CPR by bystanders and, later, Nassau County Police medics. He was pronounced dead a short time later at a hospital. A teenage New York State Parks and Recreation worker who died battling one of the latest in a rash of wildfires in the region will be honored at a memorial service in his hometown. Students and colleagues are mourning the loss of a beloved high school football coach and personal trainer from the region following his untimely death. Columbia County resident Michael LaCasse, of Hudson, died Friday, Jan. 19 at the age of 34 following a brief illness, according to his obituary. Classmates and loved ones are mourning the loss of a high school athlete who was killed in a car crash in the region. Saratoga County resident Tyler Scocca, age 17, of Galway, died in a rollover crash in the town of Providence on Sunday evening, June 25, according to the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office.
