A 21-year-old contractor from the Capital Region has been charged with allegedly ripping off a homeowner of a $10,000 deposit after he failed to perform work on the victim's home. Saratoga County resident Michael T. Maralett, of Greenfield, was charged with grand larceny and traffic violation on Thursday, Feb. 1, said Trooper Stepanie O'Neil of the New York State Police. This story has been updated. Police have arrested a suspected hit-and-run driver hours after he allegedly struck and killed a woman at a crosswalk in the region. The Saratoga County incident happened at around 5:45 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 15, on State Route 50 in the town of Ballston. A preliminary investigation found that a vehicle was driving northbound on State Route 50 when it struck a woman in a marked crosswalk near Brookline Road, according to New York State Police. Arson: 27-Year-Old Disables Alarm Before Setting Fire To Capital Region Apartment, Police Say
A 27-year-old man is accused of setting fire to an apartment complex in the region. Firefighters in Saratoga County were called at around 2:20 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 29, for a structure fire in Ballston on Dominic Drive, according to New York State Police. Members of the Ballston Spa Fire Department isolated and extinguished the fire, and determined it was suspicious. There were no reports of injuries. A 24-year-old man is facing more than a dozen criminal charges after allegedly damaging numerous cars at a park in the region. The alleged vandalism spree happened at around 10 p.m. Sunday, June 18, in Saratoga County, at Saratoga Spa State Park in Saratoga Springs. Troopers responded to a 911 call about a man damaging parked vehicles at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center, according to New York State Police. A Capital District man is facing charges after allegedly becoming so violent with a 1-year-old that he strangled the child. Saratoga County resident William Burden, age 30, of Ballston, was arrested Tuesday, Aug. 9, after someone reported the alleged incident to police. The Capital District is set to receive more than $27 million in federal funding to help pay for new pedestrian and biking projects around the region.
