Mahiat Hossen, 21, Struck, Killed By Garbage Truck Near Mall
A 21-year-old woman was struck and killed by a garbage truck just yards from Roosevelt Field Mall in Carle Place early Friday, Dec. 6, Nassau County police announced.
Mahiat Hossen, 21, of Bellerose, was attempting to cross Old Country Road northbound near the intersection with Glen Cove Road around 5:30 a.m. when she was hit by a 2016 Mack garbage truck traveling eastbound, police said.
The area has a four-way crosswalk, according to Google Maps Street View, but it is not immediately clear if she was using them.

A Suffolk County man has been arrested and charged in connection with a hit-and-run crash that claimed the life of a pedestrian last week, authorities announced Wednesday, Dec. 4.
Seth Miller, 40, of Smithtown, was charged with Leaving the Scene of an Incident with a Fatality in the Nov. 27 crash in Bohemia that killed Joan Foley, 59, of Central Islip, Suffolk County police said.
Foley was struck while crossing Veterans Memorial Highway at 5th Avenue around 5:15 a.m. Miller fled the scene after the crash and Foley was pronounced dead at the scene.

Man, His Dog Struck, Killed While Walking On Long Island; Victim's ID Released
A man and his dog were both struck and killed while walking on a busy Long Island street.
The incident happened in Amityville, near the intersection of Broadway and Loudon Avenue, at around 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30.
Suffolk County Police said the victim was walking his dog when they were struck by an Acura heading northbound on Broadway.
The victim, identified as 52-year-old Roy Mathes, of Amityville, was taken to Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip, where he was pronounced dead, police said. His dog died at the scene.

Woman Killed After Being Struck By Tractor-Trailer On Long Island
Police are investigating after a woman was killed in an overnight Long Island crash.
It happened around 1:50 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 20, in North Bellport.
The victim was walking in the right lane of westbound Sunrise Highway (Route 27), east of Exit 55, when she was struck by a 2015 Kenworth tractor-trailer, according to Suffolk County Police.
Maureen Howley, age 77, of Bellport, was transported to Long Island Community Hospital in Patchogue, where she was pronounced dead.
