New Red Flag Warning Issued In Region
The National Weather Service has issued another Red Flag Warning for the Hudson Valley as critical fire weather conditions continue despite the slight rain over the weekend. The weather service issued the warning on Tuesday, Nov. 12, and it includes Dutchess County. They also reminded residents that potential ignition sources include cigarettes and to avoid all open burning. $300K Grant To Go Toward Crucial New Fire Training Center In Region
Hundreds of thousands of dollars in funding from the New York State Senate are set to go toward a new fire training center to be used by countless departments in the Hudson Valley. In an announcement on Thursday, Aug. 29, New York State Sen. Pete Harckham revealed that $300,000 that he helped secure would be put toward the new Putnam County Fire Training Center, which is now under construction on Gipsy Trail Road (Route 41) in Carmel. 2 People Rescued After Cars Crash, Flip Into Swift Water Below Parkway In Region
Two people had to cross a ladder over fast-moving water to get to safety after their cars crashed and overturned next to a stream during heavy rain in Northern Westchester. The rescue happened on Sunday, Aug. 18 at around 4:30 p.m., when two vehicles crashed and flipped on the Taconic State Parkway in Yorktown, eventually ending up in a stream 100 feet off the road, according to the Yorktown Heights Volunteer Fire Department. Cave Rescue: 20-Year-Old Pulled To Safety After 5-Hour Operation In Capital Region
A young explorer has some dedicated search and rescue crews to thank for pulling him to safety after he became trapped inside a popular cave in the region. The Albany County incident happened Sunday afternoon, June 30, in the town of New Scotland at the Clarksville Cave. Sheriff Craig Apple said a 20-year-old man entered the cave with a group of friends from Queensbury in Warren County, but when he tried to exit, he became stuck.
