More than 450,000 Stanley-branded kid's garden sets sold nationwide at Costco are subject to a recall due to the possible presence of lead paint on some of the products, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). An alert was issued by federal officials this week advising that 459,200 "Stanley Jr. Kids Wheelbarrow and 7-piece Garden Sets" that were exclusively sold at the wholesale giant between February and June this year before the defect was discovered. The former owner of several auto businesses on Long Island admitted to dodging more than $1 million in state taxes. Timothy Kjaer, age 49, formerly of Shoreham, pleaded guilty to grand larceny in Suffolk County Court on Thursday, Sept. 12. According to prosecutors, Kjaer failed to submit dozens of sales tax returns and falsified others that significantly underreported the taxable sales of several of his Suffolk County businesses between June 2011 and November 2021. Burglar Sought After Stealing Cash From Long Island Business
Police are investigating after a burglar made off with over $1,000 from a Long Island business. The break-in happened in Oyster Bay at the Lee’s Laundromat on South Street sometime overnight Monday, Sept. 9. Nassau County Police said someone pried open a rear door before stealing approximately $1,500 in cash. They then fled in an unknown direction. No description of the suspect was given.
