Shark Attack: 2 American Women Seriously Injured At Bahamas Resort
Two American women suffered injuries in a rare Bahamas shark attack.
The tourists were swimming in Bimini Bay, a popular resort, when the incident happened early Friday evening, Feb. 7, according to the Royal Bahamas Police Force.
After receiving initial treatment, they were airlifted to a hospital. One of the women, both of whom are from Florida, suffered severe injuries and underwent three surgeries, ABC News reports.
The incident is under investigation.
Bimini, a chain of islands, is the westernmost district of the Bahamas located about 50 miles east of Miami.

Fatal DWI Crash Leaves Passenger Dead As Long Beach Driver Flees: Police
A drunk driver crashed into a tree, killing his passenger, before fleeing the scene in Garden City, Nassau County police said.
Christhian Velasquez-Geleano, 28, of Long Beach, was driving a 2007 Nissan westbound on Stewart Avenue at Nassau Boulevard when he lost control and slammed into a tree at 4:47 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 9, according to police.
Instead of helping his injured passenger, Marco Antonio Zuniga, 27, Geleano allegedly ran from the crash. First responders found Zuniga suffering from severe trauma and rushed him to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

A truck carrying asphalt overturned at a busy Old Westbury intersection on Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 7, colliding with a school bus and SUV and sending six people, including two children, to the hospital, police said.

An 89-year-old driver fatally struck a 73-year-old woman crossing a street in Freeport, Nassau County police announced on Wednesday, Dec. 18.
Barbara Martin of Freeport was crossing North Main Street heading east near Stevens Street in Freeport on Tuesday, Dec. 17, at 5:04 p.m., according to police. That's when the 2014 Lincoln traveling southbound hit her, detectives said.
Martin was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 6:38 p.m., according to hospital staff.

Man Accused Of Assaulting Nassau County Police Medic
A man was arrested on Long Island after allegedly assaulting a police medic, according to authorities.
The incident occurred just before 5:40 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 29, in Plandome Manor.
Nassau County Police said Nicholas Vulpis, age 53, a resident of Plandome Manor, was being evaluated at North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset when he became violent and struck one of the NCPD medics in the leg, causing swelling, bruising, and substantial pain.
Vulpis was arrested at the hospital, and the medic was treated and released.

A man critically injured in a fiery crash on Long Island has died from his injuries, authorities announced Monday morning, Nov. 11.
Richard Sorrentino, age 34, of Queens, was pronounced dead by hospital staff on Friday, Nov. 8, Nassau County Police said.
The crash happened on Saturday, Oct. 12, around 6:55 p.m. in Bellmore.
Sorrentino was riding a black motorcycle westbound on Sunrise Highway near Rose Place when he struck a bicyclist attempting to cross the roadway.
