Nicholas Mulligan, 20, of Farmingville, was arrested following a traffic stop on the I-495 Service Road in Farmingville late Wednesday night, March 12, according to the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office.
Mulligan, who frequently posts videos of illegal street takeovers, drifting, and racing on his Instagram account, hit speeds of nearly 90 miles per hour while racing another car just before midnight Wednesday, deputies said.
He was driving on a suspended license and had an active warrant for a prior reckless driving charge, according to officials.
Mulligan was charged with engaging in an unlawful speed contest and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. Deputies also impounded his vehicle.
In a statement following the arrest, Suffolk County Sheriff Errol Toulon Jr. chastised street racers as endangering both themselves and other drivers.
“Our deputies remain vigilant in stopping reckless drivers and ensuring the safety of Suffolk County’s roadways,” he said. “If you engage in illegal racing, you will be caught and held accountable.”
