These Hudson Valley Towns Rank Among Highest In State For Most Black Bears Taken In 2018
Hunters in the Hudson Valley were among the most proficient in taking bears, according to the DEC’s Black Bear Harvest summary.
During the 2018-2019 hunting season, New Yorkers hunted down 1,295 black bears statewide, a decrease of 125 from the previous year.
Of the bears that were hunted, 349 were killed by bow, 66 were killed by a muzzleloader and 11 were taken by youth hunters. In the Southern Zone, 804 bears were killed, 60 percent of which were male, and 491 bears were killed in the Northern Zone.

Suspect, 40, Charged In 16-Year-Old Area Murder Case
After 16 years of working to solve a stabbing murder, an area man has been arrested for the crime.
Felipe Campos, 40, of Middletown was arraigned Monday, April 29, in Orange County Court and charged with murder in connection with the 2003 stabbing death of James Keating in the Town of Warwick, said the Orange County District Attorney Office.

Area Businessman Killed After Being Hit By Car While Riding Bicycle In Florida
A SUNY New Paltz Hall of Famer in business was killed while riding his bike in Florida by a vehicle that veered onto the sidewalk following a two-vehicle crash.
The crash took place around 2:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 18, when Robert Miniger, 65, of Warwick, was riding along a sidewalk on Bonita Beach Road when he was hit by the vehicle, said Florida Highway Patrol Lt. Greg Bueno in an accident report.
