At around 7 p.m. Thursday, June 30, a total of around 16,315 customers in New York are without electricity, according to poweroutage.us. Flash Flood Causes Over 200 People To Become Stranded On Train In Hudson Valley
In the midst of a severe storm that dumped a deluge of rainfall on the Hudson Valley, over 200 people became stuck on a train that could not proceed because of flash flooding. The incident happened in Putnam County on Sunday night, July 9, when first responders were sent to the Manitou Train Station in Philipstown during a severe storm system to provide help to passengers who had become stuck on a train there. Severe storms with heavy downpours and strong gusty winds are moving through the region from west to east late Monday afternoon, Sept. 5. Rainfall amounts of 2 to 4 inches, with locally as much as 5 inches, are expected across much of the area, the National Weather Service said, adding that "this may result in flooding of urban and poor drainage areas." Avalanche Damages Ski Resort In Hudson Valley During Christmas Storm
A ski resort in the Hudson Valley sustained some serious damage after an avalanche. The incident happened during the severe storm on Friday morning, Dec. 25 at Belleayre Mountain, located in Highmount in Ulster County, when the snow slid into one of the resort's lodges. "Thankfully, the building was not occupied and no one was injured during this weather event," Belleayre Mountain said in a statement. Woman Killed After Tree Slams Into Car During Storm
An 80-year-old woman was killed during the height of Tuesday's severe storm when a tree slammed into the driver's side of her vehicle in Rockland County. The incident occurred around 4:45 p.m. Tuesday as the woman was driving south on Red Schoolhouse Road in the village of Chestnut Ridge during the storm when the tree toppled onto the roof of her car, said Ramapo Police Lt.
