These Hudson Valley Locales Rank Among Top 100 Safest Communities In US
Though violent crimes spiked across the US during the COVID-19 pandemic, some Hudson Valley towns ranked among the safest in the country according to a newly released report. In Westchester, Lewisboro and Sleepy Hollow tied as the No. 1 safest towns in the country after reporting zero violent or property crimes last year in a report released by the safety and home security site SafeWise. Just days after Gov. Andrew Cuomo declared a “disaster emergency," due to the rise in gun violence, a new survey shows New Yorkers are just as worried. The survey, conducted by SafeWise, polled over 5,000 Americans in their annual State of Safety survey which focuses on crime, their feelings about crime, and their overall feeling of safety and security. A new report from Safewise.com named nearly two dozen Hudson Valley municipalities among the 50 "safest cities" in New York. Based on the latest FBI report, the state boasts a property crime rate 40 percent less than the national average, the site said. A pair of Orange County cities are among the New York State’s most burglarized communities, according to a report released on Thursday by NewYorkUpstate.
